What Makes a Great Lead Magnet?

If you've created a landing page here comes the next question:

"What should I offer people in exchange for their email address?"

The answer is called a lead magnet.

A lead magnet is simply something valuable that you give away in exchange for a visitor's contact information.

It doesn't have to be expensive.

It doesn't have to be long.

It simply needs to solve a problem or answer a question.

Give People Something Useful

The best lead magnets help people accomplish one specific goal.

Examples include:

  • A short PDF guide
  • A checklist
  • A cheat sheet
  • A resource list
  • A quick-start guide

Notice that none of these need to be one hundred pages long.

Sometimes a five-page guide is more useful than a fifty-page ebook because it's easier to read and apply.

Solve One Problem

One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is trying to cover too much.

Instead of creating "The Complete Guide to Internet Marketing," create something like:

  • "5 Steps to Building Your First Email List"
  • "Beginner's Guide to Traffic Exchanges"
  • "How to Write Your First Welcome Email"

When you solve one problem well, people are more likely to trust your future recommendations.

You can do searches to discover what you think maybe the best advice to place in your lead manet.

A good place to make a PDF is  canva.com.

Deliver It Immediately

If you promise a free PDF, make sure your subscriber receives it right away.

A delayed or broken download creates frustration.

A smooth experience creates confidence.

Keep Improving

Your first lead magnet doesn't have to be perfect.

As you learn more, update it.

Add better examples.

Improve the design.

Clarify your explanations.

Small improvements over time often produce the best results.

Final Thoughts

A great lead magnet isn't measured by its length.

It's measured by its usefulness.

Help someone solve a real problem.

Deliver on your promise.

Build trust from the very beginning.

That's the foundation of successful list building.
