What Happens After Someone Joins Your List?
You've created a lead magnet.
You've built a landing page.
Someone visits your page, enters their email address, and receives your free gift.
Now what?
This is where the real relationship begins.
Getting someone onto your email list is only the first step. What happens after they subscribe can determine whether they become a long-term reader or simply forget who you are.
Deliver What You Promised
The first thing you should do is deliver what you promised.
If you offered a free PDF, make sure they receive it.
If you promised a checklist, send the checklist.
It sounds simple, but this is where trust begins.
When you deliver what you promised, you're showing your new subscriber that you can be trusted.
Say Hello
Your first follow-up email is your opportunity to welcome your new subscriber.
You don't need a long introduction.
Just let them know you're glad they're there and explain what they can expect from you.
Think of it like meeting someone for the first time.
You wouldn't immediately start asking them to buy something.
You'd introduce yourself.
Continue the Conversation
The relationship shouldn't end after the free gift is delivered.
This is where your autoresponder can become so useful.
You can continue sending helpful information over time without having to manually send every email.

Each email gives your subscriber another reason to stay connected.
Don't Forget Your Promise
One of the best ways to build trust is to remember why someone joined your list in the first place.
If they signed up because they wanted help with list building, continue giving them information about list building.
If they wanted help with traffic, don't suddenly turn every email into something completely unrelated.
Your content should match the reason they subscribed.
Remember the Person Behind the Email Address
It's easy to think about a list as a number.
100 subscribers.
500 subscribers.
1,000 subscribers.
But every number represents a person.
Someone who gave you permission to contact them.
That's worth remembering.
Treat your subscribers like people, not statistics.
Final Thoughts
Building a list doesn't end when someone enters their email address.
That's where the relationship begins.
Deliver what you promised.
Welcome your new subscriber.
Continue providing useful information.
And give people a reason to look forward to hearing from you.
A list isn't valuable simply because of how many names are on it.
It's valuable because of the relationships you build with the people behind those names.
